Staff Spotlight : Tête-à-Tête with Dani

How did you come to speak the languages that you speak? Well, my first language is English but I also grew up speaking Tamil with my parents and my grandparents. When I call home, I flip between the two so frequently that I don’t even notice sometimes. I’ve also been studying French since I was in elementary school, but only recently have I started taking a keen interest in it. After living in Montreal for two years, I’ve come to the realization that I want to speak French, without feeling as embarrassed. I think it’s been a slow and steady progression, but I’m slowly getting there. My ultimate goal to be able to comfortably strike up a conversation with a stranger just as easily as I would in English.

Are there any other languages that you would like to add to your repertoire? I would love to learn Spanish! I took a few courses in high school, and I adored it. Thankfully, it’s a Romance language so understanding French grammar really facilitated the process. But I think I’ll try to refine my French skills before pursuing another language.

Who do you admire most? People who know me well know that I fall in love every 3.5 seconds. By that, I mean that I think it’s easy to find redeeming qualities in every person you meet. I think the dominant traits that I appreciate are when people are genuine and warm. There are always those people that walk into the room, and they radiate positive vibes and happiness. So yeah, those are my favourite types of people!

What is the one thing that most people don’t know about you? I’m pretty much an open book with anyone that talks to me. Maybe one thing that people might not know is the fact that I’m a music enthusiast. You will literally never find me anywhere without my earbuds and my Spotify playlists. I start my morning with my music, and it’s something that gets me through the day, every day.
