If you love nature, tractor rides, and fresh apples, have we got a surprise for you! CLC will be going apple-picking on September 25th at Quinn Farms, located in Ile-Perrot, QC. Quinn Farms is one of the largest apple orchards in the general area of Montreal and surroundings. These days, the Paula Red and Lobo apple varieties are available to be picked and enjoyed by all. If you are worried about pesticides (as many people are nowadays), rest assured that Quinn Farms uses safer practices. As stated on their website, they attempt to avoid pesticides as often as possible and try to use safer alternatives (i.e. less harmful products).
Now, the real question is: what to do with all the apples??? Besides eating them raw as a tasty afternoon snack, many desserts call for delicious apples. My favourite apple-themed dessert is a classic apple crumble, complete with maple syrup and brown sugar. And I also recommend baking a decadent apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream. Or how about apple-pecan muffins fresh out of the oven? Actually, it appears as though I can’t really decide on a favourite.
If you are interested in participating, there are 11 spots available for CLC students and staff. A sign-up sheet is available and it’s first come first served! The cost is only 20 dollars and this price include your transportation, admission, snack, and a 5 pound bag of apples. Can’t wait to see you there!
